WHY call it Haldane?

Okay so Baron Gryfyn wanted to start a household… the first name and symbol bombed due to the way the symbol looked when lit up, so… he didn’t really want the Household to be named after him (de Moyon) due to the fact that he wanted all the members to feel as if they OWNED the Household and it was NOT the typical “I am the Lord of the household bow before me” type of SCA household.So, with his love of alliteration and of the novels of Katherine Kurtz (who got Gryfyn into the SCA, another story for another time), he thought the name of the royal house from those books would work pretty well.  Others thought so too, so…history was made and Haldane was born. 

WHAT is Haldane all about?

At its core, Haldane is about having FUN.  Enjoying your time in the SCA with people you like and making sure that newcomers feel that they are welcomed and nurtured.

Secondarily, at least in Gryfyn’s opinion and as stated above, it is about ownership…Haldane is pretty unique in that there is no Lord or Lady of the House, no overarching head.  ALL the members have a share of ownership in the House and have a say in the way the Household is run (so these are definitely Gryfyn’s opinions in answering these questions.)

WHO is in Haldane?

Probably some people who you already know and hopefully respect….

                  WHEN will Haldane start?                     

Haldane’s official (read planned) “coming out” will be Trident Tourney 2009.  This is when we will hopefully be able to coerce, um, cajole, um, convince the Baron and Baroness to affirm our Charter.  Any person who joins (or was already a member of) Haldane from that point to June 13, 2009, will be considered a “Premier Companion,” a fancy way of saying “Founding Member.”

WHERE can I get more information?         

You can always visit our website at http://gryfyn.org/household.html and read the Charter and the other details of the Household there.  Or you could find one of us at an SCA meeting or event.  We would be glad to talk to you about the Household…in fact, the trouble is not getting us to talk about it; it is getting us to shut up about it!

HOW can I become a member?           

We are so glad you asked…if our ideals sound like something you want to embrace and strive for, you are probably a good fit for us.  But we like to make sure; that is one reason the vote must be unanimous for new members.  Start by introducing yourself to one of us at the SCA.  Hang out and get to know us.  When you feel the time is right, let us know.  Or heck we might let you know.  Either way, we would be honored to have you onboard.
